After a semester of research on our perception of color and how color impacts our lives and makes us feel, I would like to design something that reflects the individual experience of color and the feelings that color can bring about in a person.
Colors affect us in more ways than we know. They evoke emotions, memories, sensory experiences, symbolic associations, and communicate to us. Color is an individual experience that is impacted by one’s culture, but physically, there are some consistancies in the way people perceive color. Many people personify color and associate certain colors with certain personalities, such as red being energetic, and pink being girly. We associate ourselves with many different colors for various situations, and choose certain colors to represent us. We choose these colors based on the environment we are in, who we are with, how we feel, and who we want to be.
GOALS & OBJECTIVES
I want to design an interactive garment that allows the wearer to choose the colors they wish to expose at any given moment, based on the color’s meaning, symbolism, and emotion. It could use color as a medium to express or hide aspects of one’s feelings and personaity. I also want to consider the garment’s form, texture, and possible color combinations that the wearer could create.
WHAT ARE THE SPECIFICATIONS & CONSTRAINTS?
One semester to work on it.
WHO IS A STAKEHOLDER
The wearer, those who see them when they wear the garment (friends, family, strangers), the manufacturer.
WHO DO YOU WANT TO REACH
Adult Americans who see and enjoy color, and it could be used in the wearer’s daily life. Each could be customized for an individual.

HOW THE DESIGN GOALS WILL BE MEASURED
Does it engage people to use it and transform it? Does it create an emotional or sensory experience through its application of color that resonates with the user?
